The Southwest District routinely schedules continuing education meetings throughout the year for its members. Often, the same continuing education programs are offered in both Albany and Thomasville to allow for greater member attendance.
District Director
Melody Clay Sheffield is the Campus Director for Pharmacy Practice Experiences in Southwest Georgia for the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy. She is based at the College of Pharmacy’s Southwest Georgia Clinical Campus, which is affiliated with Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany, Georgia. Melody received her Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy and her Doctor of Pharmacy degrees from the University of Georgia in 1984 and 2002, respectively. She has practiced in several pharmacy settings including consultant pharmacy, regulatory pharmacy, and home infusion, but much of her career has been in health-system pharmacy. In 2002 Melody joined the faculty of the UGA College of Pharmacy Division of Experience Programs as Regional Coordinator for Southwest Georgia. Through her position with the College of Pharmacy, Melody has worked to increase the number of preceptors and experiential practice sites for pharmacy students in the SWGA region and her position has allowed her to meet many pharmacists in a variety of practice settings. Melody has taught in both the didactic and experiential portions of the curriculum and regularly precepts UGA pharmacy students in experiences at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. In her free time Melody enjoys playing piano, singing, stargazing, and spending time with family and friends.
